Reflection

On the Art of Choosing Well

There is a quiet confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you want — and why. This week, I've been thinking about the difference between collecting and curating, and why restraint is the highest form of taste.

To collect is to accumulate. To curate is to decide. Every object you choose to keep, every recommendation you choose to make, is a statement about your values. The ebapproved seal exists precisely because that decision deserves weight.

This week I turned away three submissions that were, by any conventional measure, excellent. But excellent is not exceptional. And exceptional is the only standard we keep.

Discoveries

Three Things Worth Your Attention

A linen I can't stop reaching for. A candle that makes every room feel like an evening in Provence. And a book that has quietly rearranged the way I think about beauty.

I'll be writing about each of these in depth over the coming weeks. For now, consider this a quiet signal: if something has earned my attention long enough to mention it here, it has already passed a significant threshold.

The full reviews will appear in The Collection. Watch this space.

Behind the Seal

The ebapproved Standard

What does it take to earn the seal? I've been asked this often enough that it deserves a proper answer. It begins with a single question: would I stake my name on this?

If the answer is anything other than an immediate and unqualified yes, the process stops there. No amount of craftsmanship, heritage, or price point changes that calculus.

The seal is not a rating. It is not a score out of ten. It is a promise — made to you, by me, that what you are looking at is worth your time, your money, and your trust.

Origin

Why I Started ebapproved

It started with a question I couldn't stop asking: in a world where everything claims to be the best, how do you find what actually is?

I spent years developing an eye for quality — in objects, in experiences, in the small details that separate the merely good from the genuinely exceptional. At some point, it felt wrong to keep that to myself.

ebapproved is the answer to that question. Not a marketplace. Not a ranking. A mark of trust, earned through rigor and given with care.
